Seven Finnish Companies in Dow Jones Sustainability Index
Seven Finnish companies have been inclued in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 2013 – 2014. These firms are: Kesko, Metso, Nokia, UPM-Kymmene, Neste Oil, Outokumpu and Outotec. The first four have been mentioned in both the DJSI World as well as DJSI Europe while Neste Oil and Outokumpu were included in DJSI World. Last but not least, Outotec was mentioned in the European DJSI.
Companies were assessed by RebecoSAM who invited around 3,000 publicly traded companies and the ones scoring the highest points were then included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2013 – 2014.
For Kesko, this has been a major achievement as the company has been listed on the DJSI World for the eleventh consecutive time. It scored the highest number of points for its food retailing sector. It has been praised for its effective management of environmental issues, occupational safety and management of social impact on communities.
For Neste Oil and Outokumpu this is also an impressive achievement, both companies having made it in the Index for the the seventh consecutive time.
Outokumpu has been awarded recognition for its outstanding environmental work scoring the highest points in the climate strategy and water related risk categories.
UPM was selected a winner in the environmental sustainability sector within the Paper and Forestry industries.
All of the selected companies have been assessed on sustainability by the well renowned investment specialists RebecoSAM. The entire assessment consists of about 100 questions which all the companies must answer. The categories of questions asked dealt with multiple responsibilities from social to environmental and economic.
