Part-Time Arabic speaking Research Assistant
Arabic speaking research assistant in Helsinki area (maternity leave replacement) There is an ongoing project at the University of Tampere studying immigrant families with babies.
The purpose of the research is to gather knowledge on what is it like to become and be a parent in a new cultural environment. We study early parent-infant interaction, child development, and parents’ wellbeing.
The fieldwork is carried out in the Helsinki metropolitan area during pregnancy and the child’s first year of life. We are currently looking for an Arabic speaking research assistant to do fieldwork. The research assistant’s work tasks include recruiting and contacting research families, research visits in families’ homes and collection of the research material.
The research assistant will receive training on the research methods and collection of the research material as well as supervision during fieldwork. The work is part time (two days per week, 14.5h in total). The research assistant will be employed at the University of Tampere and the salary is determined in accordance with the general rates in the School of Social Sciences and Humanities. The training and the fieldwork take place in Helsinki and Espoo.
The employment is a maternity leave replacement starting in February 2014 or as agreed. The employment will last until the end of October 2014. Native language skills in Arabic as well as good knowledge of Finnish or English are required. We also expect you have good interaction and cooperation skills, are capable of working with families with small children, and show an interest toward our research subject.
